As the venues name might suggest, this building is in fact an eighteenth century theatre. Obviously, over the years, the buildings interior has altered, but it still retains its original character.
Located in the Green Dragon Yard, Stockton, The Georgian Theatre is the home of Stockton Music and Arts Collective (SMAC), who have been there since 1994, leasing the building from Stockton Borough Council.
The venue has recently had a complete sound system and lighting rig refit and upgrade, giving it a theoretic output of 7KW, although safety regulations only allow it to be powered up to 6!! With the new lighting rig, the venue now offers over 15,000 W of theatre lighting.
The venues policy is 'to promote live music and theatre, especially that which is generated on an independent, local level. It is without doubt, my favourite gig venue in the Teesside area, having a great atmosphere and I've seen many many good (and some awful!) bands appear there. Pay the place place a visit when you are in the area.
