MULTI-MILLION pound plans to resuscitate a community on Teesside have been revealed.

A planning application is now before Middlesbrough Council to build 138 two and three-bedroomed homes in Middlesbrough's West Lane area.

The proposal includes a health and community centre housing a GP practice, a community hall, gym, sports facilities, changing rooms, a public library and office space for other community services.

The proposals are part of a £50m redevelopment of the area.

The West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust, which is overseeing the project, is hoping for a quick decision.

A start on the project could be made on site as early as this summer.

Yuill Homes is the preferred developer for West Lane.

Also involved in the project is the Endeavour Housing Association.

The homes will include 25 houses and bungalows for rent from Endeavour Housing, six shared-ownership homes, and 107 homes for sale, including a small number of bungalows.

There will be a new road layout to improve access in and out of the development

Also planned are a play area and green space

Other improvements will include traffic-calming, improved car parking and a landscaping scheme.

Trust chairwoman Joan Ford said: "We're thrilled we've reached the planning application stages for these developments.

"If the plans are approved for West Lane, the community will be strengthened by this new development.

"It will mean we can offer a greater choice of housing to people in Middlesbrough and beyond, and I'm confident it will breathe new life into the neighbourhood and increase the sense of place and community spirit that we already enjoy.''

She added:"Our plans for a new health and community facility will benefit the whole of west Middlesbrough.''
